The Old Neptuneis a wonderfully unique pub that lives up to its name as an old smugglers haunt. Situated right on the beach with views over the sea. Food is ‘snack’ food including - and nachos. there is live music during the summer months. Dogs welcome on a lead.

So, you’ve hired the caravan, relaxd for a while, and now you want to go out exploring. Well, I don’t blame you, so we’ve complied a list of top things to do in Broadstairs, which is about a 45 minute drive from the caravan in Seaview.

1.We found a great pub that our children really enjoyed last summer called Captain Digby .The food was really lovely with a great menu choice and something for everyone. During the summer it can get really busy so plan your trip carefully. The pub gets really busy because there is an indoor soft play, which our children (aged 2,4 and 6) really loved. There i s also an outdoor play area which older children will enjoy.

2. A lovely Beach just outside Broadstairs is Joss Bay. Famous for its surf school, the sand is lovely and soft, and is a great spot for some summer beach fun. I love this please because it has toilets (handy with the kids) and a little shop selling ice creams and chips. It is a favourite with surfers and boarders, and is known for its fossils so get digging and you never know what you may find! You can park at the beach and walk down to it.

3. Get you children involved with learning about the beach and the sea creatures native to Kent with a coastal detective activityrun by Thanet Coast Project. These activities run throughout the summer and intend to give children (and their parents) an insight into coastal wildlife4. Learn about seaweed, life in rock pools and the weather along the Thant Coast.

 4. The main beach i n Broadstairs is reached by steps leading down from the high street. he beach itself is lovely and sandy, and for traditionalists out there, during the summer there are Punch and Judy shows to entertain the kids. My children loved the man made rock pool for crabbing. It kept them amused for ages.

5. Broadstairs has some of the best collection of unique jewellety shops, eateries and art and craft shops in Kent. If art is your thing then there are two art galleries where you might pick up an art bargain.

Are you looking for free or cheap activities at the caravan in Whitstable, Kent? Then I have complied a list of the best things for (almost) free and you’ll love it!

1. If you have kids they’ll love crabbing. Now, a few years ago I had not heard of crabbing nor did I realise how much they would love it but they do. And packed wooden piers stretching out into the English channel in Kent packed full of kids in the summer prove my children are not the only ones who enjoy it. All you need is a ‘line’, which you can buy, (or make using some string), old bacon and I mean old, as the crabs like old, a bucket and off you go. Literally hour of fun to be had.

2. About a half hour drive from the caravan is a wonderful place called Reculver. Situated by the sea, this ancient church is now a ruin, but the views there are spectacular. Have a picnic and a run around or go for a coastal walk to blow the cobwebs away. Close by there is the Reculver Centre, which is a a focus on renewable energy and throughput the summer is the starting point for the really popular (and free) seaside safaris, which takes kids and adults along the sea shore where they can discover and learn about what lives there.

3. Visit the Caravan in the summer months of August and you’ll experience a week of music, dance, acts and workshops all courtesy of the Herne Bay Festival. Now in it’s 19th year, the festival aims to put on a range of activities for a diverse audience and most of them are free to attend, so if you are up for joining in and getting involved, come to the caravan at this time and the you won’t be disappointed.

4. Stroll around Whistable. Just 3 km from the caravan park, and an amazing walk along the sea front will take you to the fishing town of Whistable. I don’t want to go on too  much about how amazing it is (I want it to remain a secrete you see), just believe me if you love quirky shops, great restaurants and a vibrant arts scene then you will love a trip into Whitstable….just keep it to yourself !
